Transverse Abdominal Plane Block

Indications - abdominal wall abscess drainage, appendicitis, epiploic appendagitis, etc.

The goal is to obtain analgesia for the area highlighted on the left.

The nerves run from the spinal canal and lay on top of the transverse abdominus muscle.

Place the probe as noted above with the ultrasound screen in clear line of sight for the operator.

All 3 muscle planes will be visualized if you are on the lateral abdominal wall.

The goal is to deposit fluid + anesthetic in the fascial plane above the TAP muscle.
